Clothing is the hardest thing to buy from AliExpress and the easiest thing to get wrong. Not because the quality is bad — a lot of it is made in the same factories that supply brands you know — but because the sizing is built for a different body chart, and almost nobody checks before ordering.
This page lists what is discounted right now. Below it is the part that actually saves you money: how to read a size table, which fabrics are worth it, and the five mistakes that cause nearly every returned order.

⚠️ Sizing: the one thing that ruins most orders
AliExpress sizes run on an Asian chart. A listing that says “L” is frequently a European S or M. Ordering your usual letter is the single most common reason a parcel gets shoved in a drawer and never worn.
Ignore the letter entirely. Every serious listing has a size table in the photo gallery, usually the last image, with measurements in centimetres. Use that instead:
- Bust — measure around the fullest part, keep the tape level, do not pull it tight.
- Waist — the narrowest point, usually just above the navel.
- Hips — the widest point, standing with feet together.
- Length — shoulder to hem for tops, waist to hem for skirts and trousers. This is the measurement people forget, and it is why a dress that fits perfectly arrives three inches shorter than expected.
Then take a garment you already own and like, lay it flat, and measure it the same way. Compare those numbers — not your body numbers — to the table. Garment-to-garment is far more reliable than body-to-table because it already accounts for how loose you like things.
If you are between sizes, go up. A slightly loose top is wearable; a tight one is not. And if a listing has no size table at all, that tells you something about the seller — skip it.
Fabric: what the listing is really telling you
- 100% cotton — breathable, comfortable, wrinkles, and shrinks a little on the first hot wash. Worth it for tops and summer dresses. Wash cold.
- Polyester — cheap, holds its shape, does not wrinkle, and does not breathe. Fine for a structured jacket or a party dress, uncomfortable for anything you wear in heat all day.
- Cotton blend (usually 95% cotton, 5% elastane) — the sweet spot for everyday clothes. Comfort of cotton, enough stretch to keep its shape.
- Chiffon and georgette — light, flowing, and almost always see-through. Check whether the listing includes a lining. Many do not, and the photos never show it.
- “Ice silk”, “milk silk”, “modal” — soft synthetic knits. They feel lovely in the hand and pill after a few washes. Acceptable at the price, not an investment.
- Knitwear with no stated composition — assume acrylic. It will be warm and it will pill.
How to read a listing in ninety seconds
- Scroll the buyer photos first, not the seller photos. Seller photos are styled, steamed, and often of a different garment. Buyer photos under the reviews show the real colour, the real drape, and the real fit on a real person. If there are no buyer photos on a clothing listing with hundreds of orders, that is a flag.
- Read the three-star reviews. Five-star reviews say “nice”. One-star reviews are often about shipping. The three-star ones tell you the sleeves are tight or the colour is darker than pictured.
- Check the number of orders, not just the rating. A 4.9 from 20 orders means little. A 4.6 from 5,000 orders is a product that works.
- Look at the model’s height if stated. Many listings say “model is 170cm, wearing M”. That single line is worth more than the whole description.
The five mistakes that cause returns
- Ordering your home-country letter size. Covered above, and it is the big one.
- Buying a colour from the seller photo. Screens and studio lighting lie. Beige photographs as cream and arrives as mustard. Buyer photos are the correction.
- Not checking the lining on anything white, cream or pale. Light fabrics at this price are usually single-layer.
- Assuming a set includes both pieces. Two-piece listings sometimes price the top alone, with the skirt as a separate variant. Read the variant names before you pay.
- Ordering for a specific date. Standard shipping is weeks, not days. For an event, buy early or pay for express.
Where the value actually is
Some categories are genuinely excellent value here and some are not:
Worth buying: basics and knitwear, loungewear, summer dresses, anything oversized or loose where sizing is forgiving, and trend pieces you will wear one season and not miss.
Buy with care: tailored jackets and trousers, anything fitted at the waist, swimwear, and shoes — all of these depend on fit tolerances that vary between factories.
Not worth it: designer copies. They carry someone else’s logo, the quality is a lottery, and customs in several countries seize them. An honest no-name piece at the same price is a better garment.
Frequently asked questions
Is the quality actually good?
At the ten-to-thirty-dollar range it is broadly comparable to high-street fast fashion, which is where most of it is made. Below five dollars, expect thin fabric and loose stitching.
Can I return something that does not fit?
AliExpress has buyer protection, but shipping a garment back across the world usually costs more than the garment. Treat clothing as non-returnable in practice, and spend the five minutes on the size table instead.
Why is the same dress listed at four different prices?
Different sellers, same factory. Compare the order count and rating rather than the price alone — the cheapest listing is often the newest seller with no track record.
How long does delivery take?
Two to five weeks on free standard shipping to most countries, three to seven days on paid express from a local warehouse.
The short version
Measure a garment you already own, compare it to the listing’s centimetre table, and ignore the letter size completely. Scroll the buyer photos before you believe any colour. Prefer cotton blends for everyday wear and check for a lining on anything pale. Buy loose shapes with confidence and fitted tailoring with caution.
