Best Kids’ Toys and Clothes on AliExpress (2026): Safety, Sizing and What to Avoid
Children’s products are the one AliExpress category where “cheap” and “fine” are not always the same sentence. A ten-dollar dress is a ten-dollar dress. A ten-dollar toy with a button cell battery and a loose seam is a different kind of purchase, and it deserves two extra minutes of attention.
Most of what is here is genuinely good value — clothes, soft toys, puzzles, school bags, craft kits. This page lists what is discounted now, then goes through the checks that matter, in the order they matter.

⚠️ The three things that are genuinely a safety issue
Everything else on this page is about getting value. This section is not.
- Button and coin batteries. Found in light-up toys, musical cards, small remotes and glowing shoes. Swallowed, they cause severe internal burns within hours. The safety requirement is a battery compartment secured with a screw — not a sliding clip. If the listing’s photos show a clip-shut compartment on a toy for a young child, do not buy it.
- Small parts for under-threes. Anything that fits through a toilet roll tube is a choking hazard. Magnetic building sets, small beads, doll accessories and anything that can shed an eye or a wheel belong to older children, whatever the listing’s age label says.
- Cords and strings over 22cm. On hoods, pyjamas, bibs and hanging toys, long cords are a strangulation risk. Drawstring hoods on children’s clothing are banned in several countries for this reason, and AliExpress sellers do not apply that rule.
None of these cost extra to avoid. They just need you to look at the photos before you look at the price.
Age labels and certifications: what is real
“3+” on a listing is a seller’s claim, not a test result. Treat it as a hint about the size of the pieces, not as a safety assessment.
Certifications that mean something, when they are genuinely held: CE (Europe), UKCA (United Kingdom), ASTM F963 (United States), EN71 (European toy safety standard). A listing that names a specific standard with a number is making a checkable claim. A listing with a generic “safe material” badge drawn in the product image is making none.
Be aware of the lookalike: a mark reading “CE” with the letters close together is sometimes “China Export”, which means nothing. This is not worth obsessing over, but it is worth knowing that the logo alone proves little — the written standard in the specifications is the better signal.
Materials, by what the child does with it
- Anything a baby will mouth — teethers, bath toys, feeding items — should state food-grade silicone or BPA-free. No statement, no purchase. This is the one place to spend an extra two dollars without thinking about it.
- Soft toys — check that eyes and noses are embroidered rather than plastic parts for a child under three. Buyer photos show this; seller photos are often a render.
- Painted wooden toys — look for “water-based paint” or “non-toxic paint” stated explicitly. Unpainted natural wood is the safest option and often the nicest.
- Clothing against skin — cotton or a high-cotton blend. Polyester is warm, cheap and uncomfortable for a child who is already overheating.
- Bath toys with a squeeze hole — these grow mould inside and cannot be cleaned. Sealed ones cannot. Worth choosing deliberately.
Children’s clothing sizing: read the height, not the age
Children’s clothes on AliExpress are sized by height in centimetres, and that is a far better system than ages. A label of “100” means it is cut for a child 100cm tall, regardless of whether they are three or five.
Two things to add to that:
- The cut runs slim compared with European and American sizing. If your child is between two heights, take the larger one — children grow into clothes and never the other way round.
- Check the length measurement separately from the height label. Sleeve and trouser lengths on the same “110” vary a lot between sellers.
School and craft supplies
This is where the value is highest and the risk is lowest. Pencil cases, backpacks, sticker sets, art supplies, lunch boxes and desk organisers are simple objects sold at a fraction of what a stationery shop charges for the same factory output.
Two checks worth making: for a backpack, look at the strap stitching in buyer photos, because that is what fails; and for art materials a child will handle for hours, look for the non-toxic statement, particularly on paints and modelling clay.
The things people complain about afterwards
- It is much smaller than it looked. Toys are photographed without anything for scale. The dimensions in the specifications are the truth — a “large” plush is often 20cm.
- It arrived with a strong chemical smell. Common with soft plastic and foam. Air it outdoors for several days before giving it to a child. If the smell does not fade, do not use it.
- The batteries were not included. Usually true and usually stated, and it is almost always an unusual size. Check which cells it takes before ordering.
- The seams split in a week. Soft toys at the very bottom of the price range are lightly stitched. A few dollars more buys a genuinely different standard of construction.
- It did not arrive before the birthday. Standard shipping is weeks. For a date, order early or pay for express.

Many are made in the same factories as branded toys and are perfectly fine. The difference is that nobody has checked this particular item against your country’s standards, so the checks fall to you: secured battery compartments, no small parts for under-threes, no long cords, and a stated material for anything that goes in a mouth.
What size should I order for a five-year-old?
Measure the child’s height and match the centimetre label, then round up if they are between sizes. Do not use the age on the listing.
Will customs stop children’s items?
Ordinary toys and clothes, no. Counterfeit character merchandise — the licensed cartoon faces — is a different matter, and it is routinely seized.
How long does delivery take?
Two to five weeks on free standard shipping to most countries, three to seven days on paid express from a local warehouse.
